Se presentan en este estudio algunos aspectos técnicos, económicos y ambientales que deberán tenerse en cuenta en el diseño de las nuevas plantas que se construyan en Colombia para producir el alcoholrequerido para cumplir con la nueva normatividad establecida por el Gob ierno Nacional. Por un lado, seprevé que durante los próximos años nuestra vía de obtención más segura será a partir de la caña de azúcar,pero, por otro, se muestra el surgimiento de nuevas alternativas que pueden competirle. Hasta el momento, loscostos de producción de alcohol anhidro son mayores que los de la gasolina corriente. Al final, se plantean losproblemas ambientales que deben ser manejados en las plantas de producción de etanol.
Abstract: This study shows technical, economical, and environmental aspects which have to be handled in thedesign of the new plants to be built in Colombia in order to produce the alcohol required to fit the new rulesestablished by the national government. It is seen that in the next few years, the safer way of obtaining it is fromsugar cane, but on the other hand, we can see the uprising of new alternatives which could compete with itlatter. Up to now, the cost of producing dry ethanol is higher than obtaining gasoline. Finally, environmentalproblems which have to be handled in ethanol production plants are described.
