La relevancia de las pymes para el país exige la generación de proyectos que lleven a su fortalecimiento,
haciéndose necesario evaluar y mejorar su gestión de la calidad. Para ello, se utilizó el modelo EFQM, que consta
de 9 criterios, 7 evaluados con los directivos, otro entre sus trabajadores (Resultados en Personas) y Resultados en Clientes en una muestra de ellos, en cada una de las 10 pymes seleccionadas. Cada empresa recibió un diagnóstico detallado de su gestión de la calidad, una lista de actividades de mejoramiento y, en la mayoría, se emprendieron algunas. En la escala de 0-5, cuatro fueron calificadas sobre 4,0, y las tres inferiores, alrededor de 3,0. No se halló coherencia entre las acciones de los directivos y los resultados en las organizaciones, por lo cual se propuso como política pública al Municipio de Medellín la creación de un centro de calidad para enfrentar la competencia global.

Abstract: The relevancy of small and medium enterprises SMEs for the country demands the generation of projects leading to their strengthening, for what it is necessary to evaluate and to improve their quality agement. It was used the EFQM model, which consists of 9 criteria, 7 were evaluated with the managers,another between their workpeople (Results in People) and Results in Clients on a sample of them, in each one of 10 SMEs chosen. Every company received a detailed diagnosis about his quality management, a list concerning to improvement activities and, in the majority, some of them were executed. In the scale of 0-5, four companies were qualified over 4.0, and the three lower, about 3.0. Coherence between the manager’s actions and results in the organizations was not found, therefore, the creation of a quality center was proposed to the Municipality of Medellin, as public politics to face the global competition.
