Resumen

En este artículo se presentan los resultados experimentales de caracterización y evaluación puzolánica del material volcánico del Puracé (MVP). El MVP fue analizado mediante microscopía electrónica de barrido, fluorescencia de rayos X, difracción de rayos X, petrografía de secciones delgadas, análisis termo-gravimétricos, entre otros. La reactividad puzolánica fue evaluada por medio del Índice de Actividad Puzolánica y el ensayo de Frattini. Además, se evaluó el efecto de la incorporación del MVP en la resistencia a compresión de morteros donde el cemento Portland se remplazó por MVP en un rango del 0-40 %. Los resultados demostraron que el MVP presentó todas las características para ser considerado una puzolana natural y su porcentaje óptimo de incorporación como puzolana en remplazo del cemento es del 10 %, pero el diseño demostró que puede incorporarse hasta un 20 % con una pequeña desviación en la resistencia media reportada por el diseño.

Abstract

This paper reports the results of a research where was evaluated the characteristics and pozzolanic reactivity of the Puracé volcanic material (PVM). This material was analyzed by scanning electron microscope, X-ray fluorescence, X-ray powder diffraction, thermal analysis, and petrographic study, among others. The ability of Puracé volcanic material as pozzolan was evaluated by the pozzolanic activity index and the Frattini test. Moreover, the investigation evaluates the effect of incorporating PVM on the compressive strength of mortars, where Portland cement was replaced by PVM in the range of 0 to 40%. The results showed that PVM presents characteristics to be considered a natural pozzolan and the experimental design indicated that the optimal amount of incorporation of this material is around 10% with respect to the cement content by weight. However this experimental design also showed that it is possible to incorporate up to 20% of PVM with a small deviation from the mean strength reported by the design.

Resumo

Neste artigo são apresentados os resultados experimentais de caracterização e avaliação pozolânica do material vul- cânico do Puracé de (MVP). O MVP foi analisado por microscopia eletrônica de varredura, fluorescência de raios X, difração de raio-X, petrografia de cortes finos, análise termogravimétrica, entre outros. A reatividade pozolânica foi avaliada pelo índice de atividade pozolânica e o teste Frattini. Além disso, foi avaliado o efeito da incorporação do MVP na resistência a compressão das argamassas onde o cimento Portland foi substituído por MVP na gama de 0 a 40%. Os resultados mostraram que o MVP apresentou todas as características necessárias para ser considerada uma pozolana natural e a sua taxa óptima de incorporação como a pozolana em substituição do cimento é de 10%, mas a concepção provou que pode juntar-se a 20% com um pequeno desvio em relação à força média relatada por o design.
